Privacy policy
This page explains which data pros-versus-cons.com processes and why. You can reach us through the contact form with any question about it.
Visits and statistics
We measure visits with a self-hosted instance of Umami. It sets no cookies, stores no IP addresses and does not follow you across other websites. We use it to see which articles are read and which buttons are used.
Advertising
The site shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, Google asks for your consent first, through a message on your first visit. You can change that choice at any time with the privacy and cookie settings link of that message, or through your browser. More information is in Google’s explanation of how it uses data in advertising.
What you send us
- Contact form: your name (optional), email address and message. We use them to answer you.
- Suggesting a topic, adding an advantage or disadvantage: only the text you enter. Submitted text may be reworded with an AI service before it is published.
- Thumbs up or down: a one-way hash of your IP address, so that one person votes once per item. The hash cannot be turned back into your IP address, and the IP address itself is not stored.
- Reading statistics: a counter per article per day and country (the country comes from Cloudflare). No IP address, no profile, no referring page.
- Abuse protection: to limit spam your IP address is kept for a short time in the memory of the server, for counting requests. It is not written to the database.
Hosting
The site runs on servers in the European Union. Traffic passes through Cloudflare, which protects the site against abuse and serves it faster; Cloudflare therefore sees your IP address.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you. Use the contact form and include the email address you used. Votes and reading statistics hold nothing that identifies you, so we cannot look them up.
